Run away from it? You can't even spell it!

That will take about five years to get the first one off the line barring a crash effort. And then, given that the average vehicle is ten years old, it's going to take a long time to switch over.
Gas-to-liquid conversion is a much quicker route to the same destination.

Most "experts" think and predict that the USA will be a net exporter of energy (Oil and gas) by the year 2020. That "ain't" that far off. By then we can thumb our noses at them and just hope and pray that we don't still feel like we have to keep the Oil shipping lanes open for China and Europe and well, you know. Of course, the Iranians think that Allah will come and kick all our butts before then. But I think we can relax about then.

War GAMES. Thats all that region of the world knows. If you left the region, and left OPEC's oil behind, this is a moot discussion. Realistically, we could get the, what is it, around 12% of imported oil from elsewhere. But, that would cut into the pockets of our esteemed elected officials. The two parties of crooks. Nixon started this crap with OPEC, and Obama has perfected it. Until we change, nothing will. More wars we should be involved in, more enemies this country should not have to make. DC, wake up. The only time these people ever come to us is when they want money or to kill in their gods honor. Get it together, DC.

Iran holds the key to worldwide panic and unrest. If Iran jumps ugly, we'll all feel the aftershocks immediately.

All simple bravado...

In the event of actual conflict, that is likely the result. But it seems unlikely that anything will really come from these war games.

The bully China is also doing her illegal military maneuverings over the West Philippine Sea (ergo South China Sea?) which she is claiming to belong to her...without any legal, historical or geographical basis at all. The US made the initial moves of reiterating support for her long-time ally the Philippines, establishing military base in Australia, and parking warships in Singapore. That area is the more vital navigational waters for commerce of many sovereign and independent states than that insignificant Strait of Hormuz.

SHOULD Iran prove to be so stupid as to fire upon any NATO vessel, I think we'll see a Pearl Harbor type of end-result, in that the entire Iranian Navy fleet will end-up being literally sank/buried in the Strait.

There’s plenty of natural gas here in the United States untapped, why bothered about oil in the Middle East.

It seems counterproductive that Iran would continue to provoke and threaten the global community and markets.
