Alaska first state to hit $4 a gallon gasoline: AAA
Thursday, May 15, 2008
Reuters -- LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Alaska hit a milestone on Wednesday that could be a sign of things to come around the United States this summer -- it became the first state where the average price for regular gasoline reached $4 per gallon.

"It wasn't totally unexpected," said Geoff Sundstrom, spokesman for the travel and auto group AAA which issues a daily gasoline price report.

"Oil prices recently brushed against $127 per barrel so certainly, $4 gasoline could be in the cards for other states as well this summer," said Sundstrom.

At $4 per gallon, filling up a 15-gallon tank will cost $60.

I got the shock of a lifetime when it took over $50 to fill a Stratus yesterday! Reading all of this makes me realize I better brace for $60+ come summer! Sigh..... And why aren't we drilling for oil here & in Alaska & releasing some of the Federal reserves again? Jeez, I hope they raise the driving age to 18 because I cannot afford as a single mom to let me AND my son drive! LOL Have a great weekend!

AAA your a little behind the times! From what I have read, people in Cali and other areas are already paying $4. In OH we are just a penny shy in a few areas!

This is just the first "domino" so to speak. The rest of the states will follow suit soon. Too soon in my opinion.

With all the oil in Alaska you would think their prices would be lower.

Kingdick.......you're LOST! Typical...Why don't you do something about high gas prices instead of passing the blame..never your fault...Yeah!! I get it!!

All should try to conserve more, do things closer to town, quit the unneccesary driving, reduce demand and maybe..just maybe gas prices will start to fall.

They can afford to pay this after the rebate they get from the state government for drilling revenue sharing.

A major reason our economy is down and the dollar is major down in the last 8 years and Oil is up

and then there is bush's STUPID WAR in Iraqi.

It is a real shame that it is costing us so many lives due to bush's STUPID WAR in Iraqi.

If we could just use all the hot air coming from bush we would not have an energy shortage.

The whole "bike" idea isnt a bad suggestion but if we all started walking then the gas companies would be forced to lower prices.

part of todays problems is that we export the oil we produce and import the oil that we consume...talk about a waste of time and energy...I don't even want to consider what size of the Carbon Footprint us eco-freindly Canadians are leaving before we even put a drop of oil into the family SUV...lmao ;)

Like I said before, I wish our price was as 'cheap' as $4 a gallon here. I use the word 'cheap', rather loosely.

We have gas selling at $3.999 here. Unless you can get change from $4.00 for that, I would think we're at $4.00 right now.

The oil people are loving it, that is the high cost of fuel to us. They make more money for them just past it on to us. We will all be broke but not them. To bad for us....

With oil at $127, I'm surprised the national average isn't over $4. The oil raw material and gasoline taxes alone are over $3.50 without even paying to produce, transport and distribute gasoline. With credit card fees adding another 10 cents per gallon, there must be no profit in refining or retailing at this point.
