GasBuddy Blog -- NHTSA announced this month that it is upgrading its safety ratings program called "More Stars - Safer Cars." The ratings are intended to provide buyers with comprehensive safety information when shopping for a new or used vehicle.

"For American car buyers, our 5-star safety ratings program serves as one of the most trusted and reliable resources to help them select the safest vehicles in the marketplace," says U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

For 2013, the program's upgrades mean 85 percent of all 2013 model year vehicles sold in the U.S. will be tested.

More regulations to drive the price up even higher. Fact is they can't fix stupid drivers. Driving will never be totally safe and without risk.

For this program to be successful, all (100%) of 2013 models should be tested not 85%.

Actually, a stigma attached to a vehicle by the media does more than any ratings agency. Remember way back with the "unsafe at any speed", or recently with Crown Victorias, which NHTSA and nothing to do with.

NHTSA implements tougher vehicle safety ratings for 2013 vehicles! The ratings are intended to provide buyers with comprehensive safety information when shopping for a new or used vehicle.
I can understand the safety ratings working for new vehicles but how will this work for used vehicles? No way can you determine if something is wrong or if it has been in a crash or whatever has happened to it. And, what about the 15 percent vehicles that have Not been tested? What is their tougher safety ratings? Questions, Questions?
Tougher government regulations, higher vehicle price!
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!
