My Prius saves me a bundle. It was more expensive to buy at first but it paid off that premium in savings at the pump after a little over two years. Now, I save enormously on every fill up, which happens only once a month and every fill-up has been under $30. Plus, the gas I *don't* pump means less money in the pockets of Big Oil and OPEC. Win! Win! Win!

There doesn't seem to be much regulation on what they can call a hybrid so some manufacturers are using that term liberally and the customer is the only one that loses.

I'd love a Prius, but who can afford one? The Civic, that I do have (2010) gets 40+ on the freeway, but only 28-ish in the city...

The hybrid still gets 10-15% better mileage than the non-hybrid. I wouldn't call it "fake" it's just not a very big hybrid system.

People should be able to see from the gas mileage of a hybrid and a non-hybrid that there should be a difference.
